About Immerse

Use full text proximity searches with boolean, wildcard, and phrase support to find passages in nearly 400 books messages, and texts from the Báb, Bahá'u'lláh, `Abdu'l-Bahá, Shoghi Effendi, the Universal House of Justice, the Bahá'í International Community, the Bible, the Qur'án, the Bhagavad-Gita, Dhammapada and other historians and authors.

Other features of Immerse include:

• Browse and read each text using a table of contents outline.
• Place bookmarks on your favorite passages.
• Select which authors to search.
• Hypertext links to: footnotes, jumps to original sources for quotes, and references in other texts to the passage your currently reading.
• Copy text to the windows clipboard with references to the author and title. Increase or decrease font size.

Status of Immerse

The source code to Immerse was lost through a series of unfortunate incidents a couple years ago. Because of this there is no way to fix any bugs or enhance it further. Even so, I'll continue to offer it until something better comes along and demand for Immerse decreases.

Known Bugs

• Ok, not quite a bug, but there is no user documentation. (Anyone want to write some that I can post on this website?)
• The question mark button on the search panel causes the program to close.
• Cutting and pasting a bookmark can sometimes cause the program to close.

A note to those who've sent me money for Immerse

In the past three years there have been about twenty people who were gracious enough to send me some money as way of saying thank you for the work I put into Immerse. First, let me say thank you. In return now, if you would like a nicely printed and signed CD, please send me an email (bschooley@yahoo.com) and mention that you had sent me some money previously. Then give me your current address and I'll send you a CD at no charge. Again, thanks for your previous support!

The entire program with its data files is 32 Mb,

To make it a little easier the program and its files have been divided into 7 files, also included is a DOS batch file to help you copy everything into one file for installation on your computer. You will, therefore, need enough space on your hard disk for both these 8 files, and for the resulting mega-file, about 70 Mb. (You can delete the 7 "chunk" files when you are finished creating the Installation File (Immerse_v0p95.exe)

1. First Create a file and name it Immerse or something else you will remember.
2. Then Download all of the Chunks and the bat file (Join-Immerse.bat) into that new Immerse File.
3. Next double click on the BAT file.
   It will combine all of the pieces into an Installation File (Immerse_v0p95.exe).
4. Double Click on the Installation File (Immerse_v0p95.exe) and follow the prompts.
5. Now you can Delete the Chunks and BAT file
6. Finally Copy or Delete the Installation File (Immerse_v0p95.exe).

How much does it cost?

Immerse has always been free and v0.95 is no different. Immerse can be installed on as many computers as you like. The $25 cost for the CD is just a way for those who wish to do something nice for me and my family and in exchange receive a nicely printed and signed CD.

Compatibility

Immerse was designed for Windows 95/98/NT/2000. Sorry there is no Mac version.
